Hey Gen

I know I am a spatial idiot and therefore I have trouble understanding this thing. Where would we end up if we started in Chicago? In the water? Are we digging through the actual center and following the diameter? Or we are just doing a shortest straight line (forgot what it's called) through the body of the earth, just stab it through? Anyway, for those of us who cannot figure it out on our own, could you please tell us where we would end up.

The short answer is wright in Indian Ocean just south west of Australia, just take a look on location of Chicago in Western hemisphere in red which is overlaid on a top of Eastern hemisphere in blue.
